We are currently recruiting new Trustees to oversee the continuing operation and development of the Trust. To help us advance our strategy and vision, we are looking for Trustees with an interest in Higher Education and Research and with a range of relevant expertise and experience. We also seek individuals with leadership experience who are representative of the diversity of the wider community and potential beneficiaries of the Trust.

Sixty-three Early Career Researchers in the Scottish universities have been awarded Research Incentive Grants in the latest round of funding. The successful projects, covering topics ranging from cancer research, economics, wellbeing, to cinema and contemporary writing, received funding totalling £513,119.

On the 7th February 2018 we welcomed 35 new and continuing Carnegie PhD Scholars. The event, held at The Royal Society of Edinburgh, included poster sessions for first year Scholars and research presentations for continuing Carnegie Scholars. We were delighted to welcome back former Carnegie Scholar Dr Gillian Murray Dickson who talked about her experience since completing her PhD and her current role as a Conservation Geneticist at Edinburgh Zoo.

The Trust is now accepting applications for the next round of Research Incentive Grants. Submissions are open until the closing date of 15th March 2018 at 5pm. The purpose of the Research Incentive Grants (RIG) scheme is to make it possible for an Early Career Researcher to undertake, as the Principal Investigator, a short research project, either of a stand-alone nature or in the form of an initial study that could be expected to lead to a more extensive project.

Our volunteer Research Assessors are vital to the success of the Trust’s Research Incentive Grant scheme. With a record numbers of proposals received during our September 2017 RIG round the Trust is currently seeking new recruits willing to donate their time in support our Peer review process. If you would like to find out more or register your interest in becoming an Assessor please click on the link.

Our office will be closed from midday on 21st December until the 3rd January 2018. Emails and phone lines will not be monitored during this time. We wish all our grant recipients, reviewers, donors and supporters as well as all the members of the Carnegie community a merry Christmas and all the best for 2018!
