Join our Board

Are you interested in Higher Education & Research? Would you like to help make a difference to hundreds of students and researchers each year? Join the Board of Trustees of the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland!

We are looking to appoint new Trustees from a broad range of backgrounds who can add to our diversity of experience, creativity, skills and expertise to support our charitable objectives.

Members of the Board of Trustees are responsible collectively for ensuring that the Trust successfully and effectively delivers its mission and values, and operates in a manner consistent with its objectives – as laid out in our Royal Charter. Trustees play an important role in the setting of our strategy, organisational policy and performance evaluation. In addition, Trustees act as ambassadors, representing the Trust with external bodies and at outside events or functions.

Our grant recipients reflect the diversity of Scottish society and its universities. We are therefore looking for new trustees who have personal experience and/or professional understanding of issues and topics such as:

  • Widening participation in higher education and education attainment
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Higher Education and Research
  • Impact and evaluation of grantmaking activities
  • Charitable finance and investment management
  • Accounting, audt, and risk management
  • Fundraising

We are very keen to diversify the membership of our Board and welcome applications from individuals who have a strong affinity with our Charitable objectives and have a personal understanding of the issues and challenges faced by the Trust’s beneficiaries. Previous Board experience is not an essential but a willingness to learn, develop new skills and contribute to the Board’s work is required.
