Highlights of Carnegie Vacation Scholarships Event 2018

On the 5th September 2018 we welcomed 66 Carnegie Undergraduate Vacation Scholars to our first Carnegie Vacation Scholarships Event held at The Mansion House, Edinburgh Zoo.

The event featured poster presentations from Undergraduate students from all the Scottish universities who have just completed their Carnegie Vacation Scholarships this summer. We also heard speeches from our Chair, Prof Dame Anne Glover and Prof Niamh NicDaƩid (Director of the Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science, University of Dundee).

A judging panel comprising of Trustees, previous and current members of staff, former and current Carnegie Grant Holders reviewed the posers, listened to the scholars’ presentations and quizzed them about their research.

Best Posters awards were awarded to:

  • Jason Main, University of Aberdeen
  • Daniel Dolan, University of Glasgow
  • Ehsan Salim, University of Glasgow

Runners up prizes were awarded to:

  • Benjamin Cooper, University of Strathclyde
  • Crystal Silver (pictured right), Abertay University
  • Isla McCrone, University of the West of Scotland
  • Scott Hermon, Heriot-Watt University

Participants chose Tomasz Plaskocinski’s (University of St Andrews) poster for the People’s Choice Award.
